The wine is deep ruby-red, tinged with purple at the rim. The nose delivers intense ripe fruit, such as cranberry, blackberry, and black plum, mingled with well-defined notes of nutmeg, toast and dulce de leche, derived from the French oak. The palate is balanced and broad, with smooth tannins and a medium body. The finish is long and in line with the nose.
Food pairing: Highly recommended with Spaghetti Bolognese, cheeses, steak and french fries, rice-based dishes and strong-flavoured sauces.
The vineyards are located at our Apalta and El Arcángel del Marchigüe estates in the Colchagua Valley. Soils are derived from granite at different stages of decomposition. There is considerable variation in vineyard incline, effective rooting depth, level of organic matter, and type of geological formation, which make these two terroirs very interesting. Apalta is characterized by its colluvial and alluvial influences, with varying soil depths and textures in the highest zones, and more homogenous soils in the lower sectors because of the influence of the Tinguiririca River. Its Mediterranean climate gives us summers with cold nights and hot days, which slows the pace of fruit ripening. Marchigüe presents shallower soils and moderate slopes, primarily of colluvial origin and with angular stones at shallow depths. The climate is more extreme than in Apalta and presents more wind and solar radiation and lower rainfall because of the nearby Coastal Mountain Range.
