Benedictine D.O.M liqueur, first created by a Venetian monk in the 1700s, is renowned for its unique blend of 27 botanicals, including angelica, hyssop, juniper, myrrh, saffron, aloe, arnica, and cinnamon. Sourcing these rare ingredients during that time must have been an impressive feat.
Production of Benedictine faced a hiatus in the early 19th century, with the original recipe nearly lost to history. However, a half-century later, the recipe was rediscovered, modernized, and brought back into production, continuing to captivate the palates of connoisseurs around the world.
Today, the exact formula remains a closely guarded secret, but we do know that Benedictine D.O.M is meticulously distilled in traditional copper pot stills. The liqueur is then aged in oak barrels for a period of time, enhancing its rich, complex flavors.
